25.8kg Weight Lost – Gerry's Weigh-Less Success Story
“Having achieved almost everything I set out to do in life, reaching my Goal Weight was my final goal. Ongoing health problems finally compelled me to lose my excess weight once and for all.”
Facts and Figures
Height: 1.82m
Weight then: 116.8kg
Weight now: 91kg
Weight loss: 25.8kg
Time taken: 9 months
An Uncomfortable Life
Gerry admits he had been overweight most of his life. “As a child I was overweight and at school I was always called ‘fatty’. Over the years I tried many diets but eventually ended up putting on more weight as I would overeat.”
The excess weight left him self-conscious and impacted his health. Gerry experienced ongoing pain in his back, knees, hips, and had shortness of breath and tiredness. Doctors attributed these issues to his excess weight. Living with constant pain was debilitating and left him feeling depressed and miserable.
A New Start
Gerry was inspired to join Weigh-Less after seeing another bowls member succeed. “I thought, well, if he can do it, so can I.” His Group Leader guided him and his wife Barbara through the programme, providing support and reassurance every step of the way.
Teamwork
Barbara supported Gerry wholeheartedly. “I went with him for many weeks to the weigh-ins and listened to the talks. I work out all the formulas, weigh everything and make all the food, so between us it really works.”
“I was ecstatic when I lost 4.6kg at my first weigh-in — it all seemed so amazing.”
Early success strengthened his commitment. Gerry and Barbara changed their eating habits completely in accordance with the Weigh-Less programme, choosing healthy options when eating out. Compliments from family, friends, and fellow bowls players motivated him further.
Christmas Wish
In December, Gerry reached his Goal Weight — the best Christmas gift of all. “I was so happy to get to my target that it has inspired me to keep going and maintain this weight. I would never have reached this without Weigh-Less, my Group Leader, and Barbara’s encouragement.”
Now that he’s reached his Goal Weight, Gerry’s health and energy have improved greatly. He enjoys playing bowls without pain, walks regularly, and maintains his fitness with a treadmill and fast walks. Barbara notes his stamina and energy are remarkable, and his success inspires his family.
“I don’t think you can convince someone else to lose weight. They must want to do it for themselves. Keep at it — the end justifies the means.”
